Dobbyn Foundation Receives Its First Major Corporate Grant

The Dobbyn Foundation is proud to announce that it has received its first major grant from a corporate donor on June 30, 2009. Although the corporation prefers to remain anonymous, the donation will fund school fees for two children in East Africa for one year. This was the first major corporate donation that the Dobbyn Foundation received since its incorporation in 2005.

“This was a large step for the Dobbyn Foundation and it reflects the generosity and compassion from the business community” stated Kevin Bouchard, the Executive Director of the Dobbyn Foundation. Bouchard continued “The topic of global education is one that is constantly receiving more attention and it is a testament to this firm that they have made the very real connection between economic development and education.”

End of Fiscal Year and Annual Report

The Dobbyn Foundation recently modified its fiscal year to conclude on the last day of August each year. As a result, the 2009 fiscal year will end on Monday, August 31, 2009. For Dobbyn record keeping purposes only, all donations received prior to that date will be credited to 2009, whereas all donations on September 1, 2009 going forward will be credited to 2010. This change will have no bearing on your individual donations, as donations are credited to donors as they are received throughout the year.

Additionally the Dobbyn Foundation staff is currently working to produce the 2009 Annual Report, which is expected to be circulated in November 2009. Please watch for this document to be posted on our website and sent to you via the US Mail.

Dobbyn Foundation Announces 2009 Scholars

The Dobbyn Foundation is extremely pleased to announce that we have selected 3 intelligent and promising children as scholarship recipients this year. For the class of 2009-2015, Hope, Abdul Karrim and Phillip have become the newest Dobbyn Scholars. Their pictures and bios can be viewed on The Dobbyn Foundation website (www.dobbynfoundation.org/?page_id=512).

The addition of Hope, Abdul Karrim and Phillip bring the total number of Dobbyn Foundation scholars to 12. We hope to increase that number as donations continue throughout the next few years. Our financial commitment to these scholars is 6 years, which amounts to two years more than most similar scholarship programs in East Africa. Additionally at a cost of approximately USD $750, this amount covers school fees, books, transportation, mentoring and other related costs.

The Dobbyn Foundation is making a significant investment in these children’s future and strongly believes that educating a child improves the lives of not only the scholar, but the child’s immediate family and community.

Despite the economic downturn and a general decrease in overall donations last holiday season, our donors have continued to support our mission of assisting these deserving children to attend secondary school. We again thank them for their generous support.

We will mail a letter on your behalf to that special person OR we can mail the letter to you, in order that you can give the acknowledgment of the gift in person. We will send you a receipt within a week.

The Dobbyn Foundation begins its 2008/09 Annual Fund Campaign

The Dobbyn Foundation’s Third Annual Fund Campaign has begun with this year’s goal of raising $18,000 by February 15, 2009. Fundraising letters, along with the Fall 2008 edition of the Dobbyn Foundation newsletter, were mailed to over 400 households.

“Despite this tough economic climate, we are hopeful that people will continue to give to our cause. Our mission of assisting deserving children in Uganda continues regardless of the economy in the United States. As a result, each donation we receive makes a tremendous difference to these children” stated Executive Director Kevin Bouchard.

The Dobbyn Foundation’s Second Annual Fundraising Campaign

The second annual direct mail fundraising campaign has begun with this year’s goal of raising $15,000 by February 15, 2008. Fundraising letters along with the new Dobbyn Foundation brochure were mailed to over 250 households. Please view the new brochure on the Photo Gallery Page.

“We hope to surpass last year’s total of $12,000 raised from the first direct mail effort. As this is our second year, we have seen a very positive response and hope that the generosity of our donors continues throughout this holiday season” stated Executive Director Kevin Bouchard.

The Dobbyn Foundation Partners With the Harvard Business School Board Fellows Program

The Dobbyn Foundation was selected to participate in the Harvard Business School Social Enterprise Board Fellows Program for the 2007-2008 academic year. As a result of this selection, a Harvard Business School student will be working alongside the Dobbyn Foundation Board of Directors on a number of selected projects to benefit the Dobbyn Foundation’s mission and mandate.

The Dobbyn Foundation Holds Board Meeting and Elections

The Board of Directors met Saturday, September 29th in Boston, MA. At the day long meeting, the Board Members discussed strategy, fundraising and future events planned for 2008.

In addition, the Board of Directors elected the new Executive Committee Members for a term lasting from October 2007-2009 and instituted a new Chairman of the Board position. The new assignments are as follows:
