The Dobbyn Foundation Elects Two New Board Members

The Dobbyn Foundation is pleased to welcome two new board members to our organization. On September 16th, the Dobbyn Foundation elected Virginia Dooley and Joshua Smith as our newest Board Members.

Virginia currently works at Empower, where she is responsible for grants administration and individual fundraising. Virginia holds an MA in International Development Studies from the University of London - School of Oriental and African Studies. Virginia also spent a year in Kampala, Uganda where she worked as a counselor for urban refugees.

Joshua Smith is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Engineering. Joshua currently works at the Oracle Corporation, an enterprise software organization where he is a senior member of the technical staff.

Both Virginia and Josh bring diverse backgrounds, enthusiasm, and unique expertise to our organization.

The Dobbyn Foundation's Second Annual Fundraising Campaign

The second annual direct mail fundraising campaign has begun with this year's goal of raising $15,000 by February 15, 2008. Fundraising letters along with the new Dobbyn Foundation brochure were mailed to over 250 households. Please view the new brochure on the Photo Gallery Page.

"We hope to surpass last year's total of $12,000 raised from the first direct mail effort. As this is our second year, we have seen a very positive response and hope that the generosity of our donors continues throughout this holiday season" stated Executive Director Kevin Bouchard.

The Dobbyn Foundation Partners With the Harvard Business School Board Fellows Program

The Dobbyn Foundation was selected to participate in the Harvard Business School Social Enterprise Board Fellows Program for the 2007-2008 academic year. As a result of this selection, a Harvard Business School student will be working alongside the Dobbyn Foundation Board of Directors on a number of selected projects to benefit the Dobbyn Foundation's mission and mandate.

The Dobbyn Foundation Holds Board Meeting and Elections

The Board of Directors met Saturday, September 29th in Boston, MA. At the day long meeting, the Board Members discussed strategy, fundraising and future events planned for 2008.

In addition, the Board of Directors elected the new Executive Committee Members for a term lasting from October 2007-2009 and instituted a new Chairman of the Board position. The new assignments are as follows:

The Dobbyn Foundation Raises $1900 at its 1st Annual Boston Event

The Dobbyn Foundation is pleased to announce that its 1st Annual Boston Fundraising Event was a true success. The event was held at the Bell in Hand on Wednesday May 23rd and with the help of over 75 attendees, the Dobbyn Foundation was able to raise approximately $1900 for secondary school children in East Africa.

"We were very happy with the turnout at the event and believe that this is the beginning of our organization becoming recognized throughout the Greater Boston area. Each event and fundraising opportunity gives us the ability to tell our story, with the end result being assisting as many children as possible," stated the Executive Director Kevin Bouchard. "Our organization is looking forward to the next scheduled event in Boston."

Special thanks must go to the Bell in Hand Tavern who helped support our event as well as the many supporters who participated and visited the fundraising event.

The Dobbyn Foundation Announces Secondary Scholars for 2007

The Dobbyn Foundation is pleased to announce that with the generous donations from all of our supporters, we are able to collectively support four (4) Ugandan secondary school scholars starting in 2007. The Dobbyn Foundation has established a partnership with a Ugandan based non-profit organization that assists in finding children in need of financial resources for secondary school. This Ugandan non-profit organization researched, identified and selected children on the following criteria: national primary school examination test (PLE exam), primary school grades, leadership qualities, need based scholarship, ability to succeed and family support.

As a result of this search, the Dobbyn Foundation is excited to announce the names of its first class of scholarship students: Irene Tusiimi, Annet Kabagahi, Daniel Busobozi and Josephant Kugonza. These scholars will have all four years of secondary education paid for by the Dobbyn Foundation and we will continue to monitor their success in the coming years.

The Dobbyn Foundation Announces Fundraising Event in Boston

The Dobbyn Foundation announced today that it will hold its First Annual Fundraiser in Boston on Wednesday, May 23 at the Bell in Hand Tavern. The event will run from 6:30-9:30 pm and feature live music, appetizers and a cash bar. The $20 donation at the door will directly go to fund the Dobbyn Foundation's initiatives. The event is open to the public.

The Dobbyn Foundation was formed in 2005 out of the realization that without outside financial support for school fees, the majority of children in East Africa would never be able to achieve formal secondary schooling. "We will continue to fundraise for these children who have the right to an education and are unbelievably deserving of the opportunity to attend secondary school" stated Kevin Bouchard, the Executive Director of the Dobbyn Foundation. "Our goal is to provide an opportunity to these children, in order that they will eventually have the ability to make a tremendous difference in many other people's lives."

Dobbyn Foundation Directors Return from East Africa

Two Directors of the Dobbyn Foundation recently returned from a three week trip throughout East Africa. Ann Marie and Kevin Bouchard, the Secretary and Executive Director respectively, both visited Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania during their trip. While in Uganda, Ann Marie and Kevin visited four primary schools and two secondary schools around the area of Kibale National Park, near the city of Fort Portal. Kevin and Ann Marie spent 5 days in Western Uganda visiting a Ugandan based non-profit organization that assists numerous primary schools and children surrounding Kibale National Park.

The Dobbyn Foundation Begins Annual Fundraising Drive

The Dobbyn Foundation announced today that it has begun its first major fundraising campaign as part of its continuing effort to aid East African children and increase awareness of the issues surrounding secondary education funding in Africa. The Dobbyn Foundation has set a goal to raise $20,000 to support secondary school educational opportunities for East African children in 2006-2007.

"We are extremely pleased to begin this annual fundraising campaign with such an ambitious goal for our first year. As the momentum builds and word quickly spreads of our passion for the needs of East African children, it is our hope that people will be able to make a contribution which will begin to transform a child's life through education," said Kevin Bouchard, Executive Director of the Dobbyn Foundation.

Announcement About Secondary Education in Uganda

We are extremely pleased that President Yoweri Museveni and the Government of Uganda has announced that secondary education will be free for all students as of late 2006. The Dobbyn Foundation will continue to support Ugandan children until the government fulfills its promise of removing school fees comprising all four levels of secondary school, including S1, S2, S3 and S4. It is the hope of all that Uganda will soon become a successful case study for both primary and secondary education throughout all of Africa.
